Baby, it’s cold outside … okay, maybe it’s still fall but in many places it’s about to get real chilly! If you live somewhere that drops to the negative degrees or are planning a trip to the frozen tundra, it’s probably a good idea to be prepared. Grab a few important things before you head there to make sure the cold weather doesn’t freeze you out. Without further ado (and because we’re obviously experts on this subject being from Minnesota and all), here’s our favorite cold weather essentials!
.) A Heavy Winter Coat. And if you’re from someplace like Florida, NO a light North Face jacket is not a true winter jacket. If you’re headed somewhere cold you’re gonna need a heavy jacket that can withstand the negative degree weather and keep your middle toasty. TIP: We’ve personally found that it’s best to get a coat that’s a little bit longer so that if it rides up a little bit your tummy isn’t exposed to the biting wind that’s been known to come through in the winter months. One of our favorites are the longer North Face down jackets … although they might not be the trendiest they’re guaranteed to keep you warm!
.) Winter Accessories. This might be able to go without saying, but I feel like tons of people either forget or think they won’t need things like gloves and a winter hat. YOU DO. Whatever you do, don’t underestimate how cold your hands and ears are going to get in the cold weather. Anyways, there’s tons of cute, cozy hats this year whether you’re looking for men or women so it’s totally worth the inevitable hat hair! ;)
.) Sturdy Boots. Unless you enjoy cold and wet feet you’re gonna have to invest in some of these guys! And unfortunately we don’t mean those trendy booties everyone has been wearing this year … we mean the heavy duty “I need to trek through 3 feet of snow to get to the front door of the restaurant” type boots. They might not be a fashion lovers favorite accessory but they’ll get your feet there in one piece … and comfortably! Uggs are the main boots most people rely on to get them through the cold weather but our favorite’s are the Sorels. Plus, believe it or not, we hear they’re gonna be super “in” this year!
.) A Creamy Moisturizer. When it comes to the dry weather you’ll encounter with the cold, you’re gonna have to grab some of this stuff. This is gonna include some for not only your body, but your face too! Trust us, you don’t wanna wander around for a few hours only to come back to the hotel and realize you have cracks in your skin deeper than the Grand Canyon … true story. Our favorite body moisturizer is by far a product called Udderly Smooth. Nothing works better in the cold weather than this stuff. For the face, I would say to focus more on your skin type because I know a lot of products that might work for someone with naturally dry skin won’t work well for someone who has naturally oily skin. It’s always best to use what works best for you in this situation!
.) A Super Moisturizing Lip Balm. On the same note, you’re definitely gonna want to have some of this stuff on hand. Your face is constantly exposed to the cold and your lips are bound to get dry and cracked. If you’re anything like me, your lips are probably chapped all the time regardless of the weather but this is especially the weather you want to have it with you in. Our favorite lip balm is easily EOS lip balm. It comes in a whole bunch of yummy flavors, keeps your lips moisturized for a good amount of time before you have to reapply, and doesn’t give you that weird greasy feeling on your lips (yeah, you know what I’m talking about).
